Back in Time

Saturday, we took a day trip down to Walnut Grove. We saw this...

But, we really went down there to see the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant. The boys discovered, and read (still reading) the Little House on the Prairie set of books that I had kept from when I was younger. They enjoyed the books, so we took them to see one of the places they lived. The book On the Banks of Plum Creek is the one that tells about life in Walnut Grove. They lived in a dug out along the bank of Plum Creek.

That is what it would have looked like 140 years ago (the picture is of one of the props for the play), but it has caved in so now it looks like this...

There was also a museum, there that we bought them to. It had lots of family pictures, artifacts (no originals, they're all in Missouri) and they had smaller replica buildings of that time. Everyone enjoyed the play, but it didn't start until 9pm. (Anna got left home, too long of a day for her) The kids had a good time, and they even learned a few things about "the olden days".

Hopefully we'll be able to get a couple more adventures in yet this summer.

Glad you came to see it! I play the mayor, did you enjoy the performance?

We did enjoy the performance, thank you. I apologize for my junior shutterbug that was in the middle of the first row. No doubt he blinded you all with the 850 (or something close to that, lol)pictures he took. My kids thought how they built the church was really neat, they also really liked the prairie fire scene.

I was just reading about that pageant the other day! Glad you had fun.
My Tilly looks so much like Melissa Gilbert in the early years, that the girls want me to make them prairie dresses...then they can play "Mary & Laura"!
God Bless, E
